Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Assist the special education teacher in meeting the instructional, physical, behavioral, and emotional needs of students with disabilities. Provide support in self-help skills, hygiene, motor skills, behavior management, positive interactions, instructional activities, small-group practice, and data collection. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of assigned certified teacher(s). Attend relevant professional development.

Qualifications:

Education /

Certification:

High School Diploma or GED Must meet one of the following ESSA requirements:

• Completed at least 30 college hours, or
• Obtained an associate's degree or higher, or
• Passed a formal State or Local academic assessment Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate Must complete and maintain:
• Crisis intervention/restraint training

Major Responsibilities:

Student Support & Instruction:

Supervise and assist students throughout the school day in various environments (classroom, cafeteria, gym, bus line, playground, restroom, duty stations, etc.) Assist with instructional material prep, learning stations, schedules, data collection, and related supports Work with individual students or small groups to develop academic, behavioral, personal care, and motor skills Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; modify work as appropriate; collect required data Assist substitute teachers by relaying important daily student/classroom information Recognize differences in student needs and adapt responses accordingly Support instruction using visual strategies, assistive technology, communication systems, and positive behavioral supports

Behavior & Crisis Support:

Help manage student behavior using positive supports and teacher-directed plans Use de-escalation techniques and intervene in crisis situations Assist with physical restraint when required (CPI training required)

Physical & Personal Care:

Transfer/lift students (wheelchairs, positioning, adaptive equipment) Assist with feeding, toileting, hygiene, diapering, feminine hygiene, and other personal care tasks

IEP & Documentation:

Review ARD documents (IEP goals/objectives, accommodations, testing requirements, BIPs) Maintain required documentation such as logs, trackers, trials, communications, daily schedule, etc.
