Learning Support Teacher Aide

  • Part-time, Full-time The Support Teacher Aide
  • Inclusion provides direct support to young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental needs within an inclusive early childhood classroom.
This role also supports general education students to ensure a cohesive, structured, and nurturing learning environment for all children. The aide assists in implementing individualized inclusion strategies while promoting overall classroom engagement, safety, and developmental progress in compliance with standards regulated by Texas Health and Human Services. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Student Support & Inclusion Implement individualized learning and behavior support plans under the direction of the Lead Teacher and/or Director. Provide one-on-one and small group support to children with autism and other developmental needs. Support general education students during instructional activities, transitions, centers, outdoor play, and daily routines. Assist with structured schedules, sensory accommodations, and classroom routines to support all learners. Promote independence, self-help skills, and age-appropriate social development for all children. Classroom & Instructional Support Support developmentally appropriate activities aligned with Texas early learning guidelines. Adapt classroom materials and activities to ensure accessibility for children with varying developmental levels. Reinforce instructional concepts through modeling, repetition, and hands-on guidance. Assist in monitoring and documenting developmental progress and behavioral observations as directed. Support whole-group and small-group instruction to maintain an inclusive learning environment. Behavior & Social-Emotional Support Implement positive behavior guidance strategies consistent with Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers. Support emotional regulation, communication development, and peer interactions across the classroom. Encourage positive peer modeling and inclusive play between children with and without identified needs. Utilize calm redirection and de-escalation techniques when needed. Health, Safety & Compliance Maintain active supervision in accordance with required staff-to-child ratios. Follow all center policies and Texas child care licensing regulations. Ensure a safe, sanitary, and organized learning environment. Maintain confidentiality of child and family information. Collaboration Work collaboratively with Lead Teachers, administrators, therapists, and families. Participate in required professional development and ongoing training related to autism and inclusive practices. Communicate student progress, behavioral concerns, and classroom needs to supervisory staff promptly. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED (required). Must meet Texas child care licensing requirements for employment. CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). CDA Credential (must obtain within 6 month of hire) Experience working with young children; experience with autism or special needs preferred. Preferred Qualifications Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or coursework in Early Childhood Education Experience in inclusive early childhood settings. Knowledge of autism support strategies such as visual schedules, sensory supports, and structured routines. Frequent bending, sitting on the floor, standing, and active engagement with young children. Ability to respond quickly to ensure child safety.
