Transitional Learning Center General Summary The Teacher Assistant supports the English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor in providing high-quality English language instruction to adult learners. The individual assists with classroom management, instructional activities, student support, and administrative tasks to help create an inclusive and engaging learning environment that promotes language acquisition, workforce readiness, and learner success. Specific Position Duties Assist the ESL Instructor with delivering curriculum-aligned lessons, classroom activities, and language-learning instruction. Provide individualized and support to reinforce students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Assist students with assignments, projects, technology-based learning activities, and clarification of instructional materials. Help prepare, organize, and distribute instructional materials, handouts, and classroom resources. Promote student engagement and participation while fostering a welcoming, respectful, and culturally responsive learning environment. Monitor and document student progress, attendance, and participation; communicate observations and concerns to the instructor. Assist students with accessing appropriate educational and community resources as needed. Support effective classroom management by maintaining an organized, positive, and productive learning environment. Assist with classroom technology setup and basic troubleshooting to support instruction. Support student intake, orientation, registration, assessment administration, and data collection as directed. Maintain accurate student records and program documentation in accordance with established requirements. Participate in staff meetings, required training, and professional development activities. Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse cultural and language backgrounds. Understanding of confidentiality, professional ethics, and appropriate workplace practices. Ability to support learners with varying levels of English proficiency. Strong organizational, time-management, and adaptability skills. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with adult learners, diverse populations, or multilingual communities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with instructors, staff, and students. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and online learning platforms. Preferred Qualifications Associate's degree or coursework in Education, ESL, Adult Education, or a related field. Experience supporting ESL or adult education programs. Bilingual proficiency in English and another language. Knowledge of adult learning principles and culturally responsive teaching practices.
