Job Description

Position:
Teacher Aide / Outdoor Learning Assistant About Our School We are seeking a warm, energetic, dependable, and nurturing Teacher Aide to join our growing learning community for the upcoming school year. Our school is centered around hands-on learning, outdoor education, creativity, nature, and individualized support . We believe children learn best when they are able to move, explore, create, ask questions, work with their hands, and connect learning to the real world. Our students range in age from approximately 4-10 years old , and our aide will have the opportunity to work with children across multiple age groups and classrooms. This is an excellent position for someone who genuinely enjoys children, loves being outdoors, and wants to be an active part of a unique educational environment. About the Position The Teacher Aide works closely with our lead teachers to support students throughout the school day. This position is highly interactive and involves supervision, hands-on activities, outdoor learning, classroom support, and helping children become more independent and confident learners. Our class sizes are small, generally 6-10 students per class , and aides work alongside teachers to provide additional support and supervision. The ideal candidate is someone who can get down on the floor with a child, help build a project, explore nature, supervise outdoor play, assist with art, help students solve problems, and jump in wherever needed. This is an active position. Applicants should be comfortable spending significant portions of the day outdoors and being physically active with children. Responsibilities Provide attentive and positive supervision of children ages approximately 4-11. Support lead teachers with daily classroom activities, lessons, projects, and routines. Help create a warm, safe, welcoming environment where children feel valued and supported. Assist students during hands-on learning, art projects, science investigations, building activities, gardening, cooking, and other experiential learning experiences. Participate in outdoor learning, nature exploration, gardening, animal care, outdoor play, and physical activities. Encourage children to explore, problem-solve, collaborate, and work independently. Support students academically when needed, including reading, writing, math, and other classroom activities. Provide positive behavior support and help children navigate social situations and conflicts. Assist with transitions, snack, lunch, clean-up, arrival, dismissal, and other daily routines. Help supervise students during outdoor activities and free play. Assist with maintaining organized, inviting classroom and outdoor learning spaces. Help prepare and organize materials for lessons and projects. Support art and creative activities when appropriate. Observe students and communicate relevant observations and concerns with the lead teacher. Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to maintain a positive school culture. Help care for gardens, animals, outdoor spaces, and classroom materials as needed. Be willing to step into different classrooms and support different age groups throughout the day. Art & Nature Experience Experience or interest in art, nature, outdoor education, gardening, crafts, cooking, animal care, or hands-on learning is strongly preferred. We especially value applicants who can bring their own interests and creativity into the classroom. If you love painting, drawing, crafting, gardening, identifying plants, exploring nature, building things, cooking, working with animals, or creating hands-on projects with children, we would love to hear about it. You do not need to be an expert in every area. We are looking for someone who is curious, willing to learn, and excited to share their interests with children. Qualifications Experience working with children is required. Experience with children ages 4-11 is preferred. Experience in education, childcare, camps, Montessori, Reggio, Waldorf, homeschool, outdoor education, private schools, or similar environments is preferred. Strong interest in working with children and supporting their development. Patient, kind, dependable, flexible, and responsible. Comfortable working with multiple age groups. Able to work well as part of a team and follow the direction of lead teachers. Comfortable taking initiative and helping wherever needed. Strong communication skills. Comfortable providing positive behavior guidance and supervision. Enthusiastic about hands-on and experiential learning. Interest or experience in art, nature, gardening, crafts, building, or outdoor education is preferred. Comfortable spending significant portions of the day outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be physically active and able to keep up with young children throughout the school day. Able to walk, stand, bend, kneel, sit on the ground, participate in outdoor activities, and assist with active play. Willing to help with classroom materials, outdoor spaces, gardens, and general school upkeep. Must be willing to undergo a background check, in accordance with applicable law. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who genuinely likes children and enjoys being around them. The right person for this position is not afraid to get messy, go outside, sit in the grass, build something, paint, explore, play, or help a child work through a challenge. You might spend part of your day helping a child read, then go outside to investigate insects, help another group build a structure, assist with an art project, supervise outdoor play, and finish the afternoon caring for our garden or animals.
We value people who are:
Kind. Curious. Energetic. Creative. Patient. Dependable. Flexible. Most importantly, we want someone who understands that children need both support and independence . Our goal is not to do things for children, but to help them learn how to do things for themselves. Schedule Our school operates Monday-Thursday.
