Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

Associate's degree or 48 hours college-level hours including the core curriculum OR Region 20 Educational Aide Certificate Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to use personal computer and software--preferred Effective communication and organizational skills Perform functions from written and oral instructions Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics Ability to work well with children

Additional Information:

This position is funded with external funds (State Allotment and/or Federal). Continuation of this position is contingent upon continued receipt of the external funding. All duties/responsibilities comply with the respective fund source activities and requirements.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Learner-Centered Curriculum 1. Demonstrate knowledge in reading to appropriately meet the learning needs of the students. 2. Demonstrate knowledge in writing to appropriately meet the learning needs of the students. 3. Demonstrate knowledge in math to appropriately meet the learning needs of the students. 4. Provide assistance in the services for staff development 5. and instructional strategies for the successful education for students. Uvalde CISD Special Ed Behavior Support Aide Learner-Centered Instruction 6. Assist in keeping students on task and actively engaged in learning by supporting the classroom teacher. 7. Reinforce student learning by supporting the classroom teacher. 8. Provide specific, constructive feedback to the students. 9. Facilitate student learning by efficiently organizing instructional materials and orienting students to the material. 10. Vary activities appropriately and maintain appropriate pacing and sequencing of instruction as per recommendation and guidance of the classroom teacher. 11. Use appropriate questioning and inquiry techniques to challenge students. 12. Make appropriate use of available computer-assisted instruction as a part of the instructional process. 13. Facilitate student learning in the area of personal needs as required, i.e. hygiene, self-help. Learner-Centered Communication 14. Promote a positive caring climate. 15. Use appropriate and accurate verbal and non-verbal communication with students. 16. Encourage and support students who are reluctant or having difficulty with the assigned task. 17. Work collaboratively and constructively with the teacher for overall improvement of 18. student performance. 19. Be supportive of and courteous with students and all faculty and staff. School/Organizational Improvement 20. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays. 21. Collaborate in the development and articulation of a common vision for the district. Personnel Management 22. Comply with applicable personnel policies. 23. Maintain confidentiality of student information. 24. Assist campus staff as needed. Management of Student Discipline, Time, and Materials 25. Demonstrate appropriate student management for instruction. 26. Review and be knowledgeable of the UCISD Student Code of Conduct. 27. Follow the established classroom discipline procedures to support the classroom teacher. 28. Reinforce the desired behavior when appropriate. 29. Effectively manage the time and materials. 30. Report to work on time and absent only with good cause. Uvalde CISD Special Ed Behavior Support Aide 31. Other duties as assigned. Professional Growth and Development 32. Attend professional growth activities to enhance the campus educational program. 33. Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Student Performance 34. Promote parent involvement in the area of academic progress and assessment performance to ensure the academic success of the students. 35. Support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives that promote student success.
