Job Description

Part-Time Kindergarten Aide American Heritage School is a mission-driven, faith-centered private school aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Kindergarten Aide plays a vital role in supporting the classroom teacher in creating a nurturing, structured, and engaging learning environment for young students. This position is designed to assist with daily classroom operations while helping students develop academically, socially, and emotionally during their foundational school years. Nature of the Role This position is considered a faith-forming role within American Heritage School. In addition to academic instruction, aides are expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The aide works closely with the classroom teacher to support instruction, reinforce learning concepts, and ensure that students remain focused, engaged, and supported throughout the school day. A successful Kindergarten Aide is proactive, attentive, flexible, and able to respond to the dynamic needs of a kindergarten classroom. Qualifications Candidates should have experience working with young children with strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and take direction, and demonstrate patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working in an educational setting, as well as a commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This role is essential in helping create a joyful, structured, and effective kindergarten classroom where students feel supported, valued, and ready to learn. Faith and Mission Responsibilities In addition to academic responsibilities, teachers at AHS are expected to integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate, serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students, support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues, participate in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities, and respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission. Professional Expectations Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor and willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement. Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, are expected to reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose. A Kindergarten Aide must be able to align style, tone, and expectations with that of the classroom teacher. This includes following the teacher's lead in instructional approaches, classroom management techniques, communication style, and overall classroom culture. Consistency between the teacher and aide is essential in providing students with a stable and predictable learning environment. The aide should demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to adapt to the teacher's preferences and the evolving needs of the classroom. Strong communication skills are essential, as the aide must collaborate effectively with the teacher and respond appropriately to feedback and direction. Additionally, the aide should exhibit professionalism, reliability, and a genuine care for young children. Patience, attentiveness, and a positive attitude are critical in supporting both student success and the overall classroom experience. Responsibilities Key responsibilities include assisting the classroom teacher with classroom management by helping maintain a calm, organized, and respectful environment. This includes supporting behavior expectations, guiding students through transitions, and reinforcing routines and procedures. Providing instructional support by working with individual students or small groups to reinforce lessons, clarify directions, and offer additional guidance as needed. Assisting with grading and preparation of instructional materials, including organizing worksheets, preparing classroom resources, and supporting assessment-related tasks under the direction of the teacher. Offering general support to both teacher and students by helping with daily classroom activities, including arrival and dismissal, centers, recess transitions, and other routine responsibilities. Monitoring student engagement and providing encouragement and redirection when needed to help students stay on task and develop positive learning habits. Supporting students' social and emotional development by modeling kindness, patience, and appropriate behavior, and by helping students navigate peer interactions. Maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment by supervising students and ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures. Communication and Organization Candidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create and post assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics, maintain purposeful and effective classroom routines, communicate with parents and colleagues in ways that are timely, collaborative, precise, and positive, and monitor and report student progress clearly and consistently. Experience working with students with specific learning disabilities is helpful but not required. Extracurricular Opportunities Applicants are encouraged to share any interest or experience in supporting AHS extracurricular athletics programs. AHS prefers to fill coaching and activity roles with employees who have both the interest and skills to mentor students in these areas. Position Details This position is available starting August 1, 2026, for the 2026-2027 school year. Important Note to Applicants AHS is a mission-driven, faith-centered school. Employment at AHS requires alignment with and support of the school's religious mission and values. Individuals who are unable or unwilling to support these expectations should carefully consider whether this position is a good fit.
