Job Description
Overview Join our dedicated team as a Special Education Paraprofessional and become a vital part of fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment for students with diverse needs. In this role, you will work closely with licensed teachers, special education staff, and families to implement individualized educational plans (IEPs), support classroom activities, and promote positive behavior. Your energetic and compassionate approach will help empower students with disabilities to reach their full potential through tailored instructional support and engaging classroom experiences. Duties Assist licensed teachers in implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, including literacy, math, and social-emotional learning. Provide physical assistance and behavioral support to students with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum or with developmental delays. Support classroom management by encouraging positive behavior, applying behavior management strategies, and maintaining a safe learning environment. Use communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) when supporting students with hearing impairments or communication challenges. Help develop and adapt instructional materials suited for students with special education needs, including early childhood education and Montessori-based activities. Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors—to support student progress through IEP goals. Manage confidential information responsibly while documenting student progress, behavior incidents, and instructional activities accurately. Provide classroom support in various settings including preschool, toddler care, or private school environments to foster inclusive learning experiences. Experience Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings is highly desirable. Demonstrated knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education practices. Experience supporting students with disabilities, behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, or developmental disabilities. Familiarity with classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies tailored for students with special needs. Proficiency in curriculum development, lesson planning, and literacy education to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Knowledge of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) regulations related to inclusive education practices. Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
