Continued employment (or the position's hourly workload) is contingent upon the availability of future funding, as determined on yearly basis.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the special education director(s) and teachers of the visually impaired, the ESP assists assigned teaching personnel in the creation of materials, delivery of materials, and instruction of special education students with visual impairments. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction:
Essential Functions:
Working with and under the immediate direction of Special Education director and with VI professionals Use braille translation software Use word processing programs on Apple, Macintosh, or PC computers Assist the VI with modifications and supplemental services necessary for the education of students with visual impairments Participate in training on any new VI technology (e.g. software, computers, adaptive assisted devices) Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor(s) Additionally, assisting the VI professional(s) with: Planning, production, and organization of instructional material Individual and/or group instruction activities Promote and maintain educational team goals. Maintaining and taking educational IEP Goal Data Operate in accordance with district and school regulations Braille, record, or enlarge textbooks, workbooks, worksheets, and diagnostic tests that are not available through state agencies Assist the VI and teachers in promoting student independence Assist the VI and teacher with modifications and supplemental services necessary for the education of students with visual impairments Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources. Other Functions Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Physical Requirements (including, but not limited to, the following): Able to lift up to 50 pounds Assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time Utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior interventions Participate in and utilize Mandt training (to be determined by leadership) May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent Typing and keyboarding skills Experienced with technology Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with children with disabilities is strongly preferred. Willingness to learn and transcribe Braille Willingness to learn and use specialized equipment such as: Braille translation program Computer keyboard Printer Braille printer (Embosser) Tactual and braille production equipment (Braille writer) Assistive technology (such as electronic braillenote, abacus). Must be able to travel to different work locations, if required
