This position supports students with disabilities in an inclusive classroom setting , working closely with the special education teacher and general education teacher to help students access instruction, develop independence, and make meaningful progress. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, is patient and dependable, and can build positive relationships with students while maintaining high expectations for learning and behavior. Position Details Elementary classroom-based special education support Maximum of 29 hours per week No benefits Must be 18 years of age or older Must be willing and able to pass a background check Responsibilities Provide instructional support to students under the direction of the special education teacher and classroom teacher. Support students in accessing and participating in the general education classroom. Reinforce accommodations, instructional strategies, and individualized supports outlined by the special education teacher. Provide small-group and individual academic support, including basic reading and math skills. Assist with student behavior support and consistently follow classroom and school behavior systems. Collect student progress and behavioral data as directed by the special education teacher. Support students in developing independence, appropriate classroom behaviors, and functional skills. Accompany students to mainstream classes and provide supervision and support as needed. Assist students with personal care, feeding, hygiene, positioning, lifting, or carrying when required by student needs. Assist with classroom organization, preparation, and clerical duties. Assist with planning and supervising field trips and other off-campus activities. Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, teachers, families, and staff. Maintain student confidentiality at all times. Provide supervision during morning/afternoon carpool, lunch, and other school activities as needed. Occasionally substitute teach when needed. Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree, 48 semester hours of college credit, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment is required. Candidates who do not currently meet the educational requirements must be willing to take and pass the ParaPro Assessment immediately upon hire. Previous experience working with children, particularly students with disabilities, is preferred. Required Knowledge & Skills Ability to follow instructional and behavioral directions provided by special education teachers and related service professionals. Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and special education staff. Ability to support students with a variety of academic, behavioral, and functional needs. Ability to collect and accurately document student progress and behavioral data. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to remain calm, patient, and effective in challenging situations. Ability to manage stress and adapt to changing student needs. Willingness and ability to complete required training, including CPR, MANDT, and other school-required training.
