Aug 19, 2026 Job Description The Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) is seeking compassionate, student-centered Instructional Assistants. The successful candidates will assist individual students and/or small groups of students with academic, social-emotional, and/or vocational/job-related tasks per the Individualized Education Plan, Section 504 plan, and/or the classroom teacher's direction. The anticipated building assignments for these current openings are at Hardwick Elementary School and Hazen Union Middle and High School. Assignments are subject to change for both building/school assignments and assignments to an individual or group of students. Instructional Assistants become familiar with the academic approach and requirements of the teacher and the program, and all instructional, non-instructional, and adaptive materials and equipment utilized in the program. Instructional Assistants support students in non-classroom settings, both on and off campus, as needed. Some essential functions are:
  • Assisting individual and small groups of students with academic/learning/and/or vocational/job-related tasks per Individualized Education Plan, Section 504 plan, and/or classroom teacher's direction.
  • Becoming familiar with the academic approach and requirements of the teacher and the program, and all instructional, non-instructional, and adaptive materials and equipment utilized in the program.
  • Assisting and supervising students during non-instructional and out-of-classroom activities (e.g., in the lunchroom or hall, getting on/off the bus, during art, music, library, or P.E. times, outdoor settings, field trips, etc.), and as the teacher works with groups or individuals.
  • Providing additional support and other duties as assigned.
