Part-Time:

Wednesday and Thursday; 7.5 hours per week Eastgate Community Preschool, Bellevue Summary of Responsibilities

• Participate in set-up and clean-up of children's learning environment.
• Assist the Lead Teacher with group time, free choice activities, classroom management and playground supervision. Maintain positive interactions with children during class time.
• Assist parents in their roles as classroom teaching assistants.

About Eastgate Cooperative Preschool Who:

Eastgate Co-op has been meeting at our current site since 1965. We were part of the Bellevue College Parent Education Program, but starting in June 2026, will be an independent organization. As a cooperative preschool, we are led by our Board, which is composed of parent volunteers. Parents also work in the classroom and attend parent education sessions.

What:

We are a play-based preschool, where children learn by hands-on experiences.

Choice activities include:

art exploration, craft projects, sensory activities, imaginary play, science exploration, games and learning tools, building with blocks, large motor challenges, and more.

Children who are three years old on 8/31 are called Bears. Children who were four or five years old on 8/31 are called Dinos.

When:

Our classes meet on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Bears meet 9:45

Staffing:

We employ a lead teacher and assistant teacher. Our parent education instructor attends one day a week and functions as the assistant teacher on that day. The assistant teacher is typically there each day from 9

• 12:45. The contract year is September 1, 2026 and ending May 31, 2027. Our break schedule follows the Bellevue School District. A typical day's schedule for the assistant teacher is: Arrive for set-up at 9 am. 9:15 Lead Teacher Arrives 9:35-9:50 Greet children as they arrive, read books that they choose and talk with them 9:50

Qualities sought:

Required:

• Highly organized, efficient, flexible when plans shift to meet the changing day.
• Able to connect well with children, meeting them where they're at, whether that's sitting quietly and creating a safe space with a worried child, inspiring and supporting engaged play, or managing children's big emotions and excited energy while keeping everyone safe.
• Commitment to and ability to model positive discipline.
• Comfort and confidence interacting with parents working in the preschool classroom.
• Minimum of 2 years experience teaching or parenting young children.

Preferred:

• Familiar with play-based learning model.
• Knowledge of / experience with co-op preschool model. (As a teacher or as a parent.)
• Experience teaching children in a group setting or training in early childhood education.

Job Requirements:

Working Environment:

The Teacher is expected to actively engage in play with children as well as complete caretaking tasks as necessary. This may include frequent standing, walking, kneeling, lifting up to 40 pounds, and exposure to bodily fluids.

Conditions of Employment:

Successful completion of a Washington State criminal history background check prior to hiring; provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States; possess or attain First Aid & CPR certification as soon as possible. Reimbursement provided.
