We provide teens with a welcoming place to build relationships, confidence, life skills, and community connection. Position Summary The Staff Assistant supports Rocksolid's daily teen programming and helps create a safe, structured, welcoming, and engaging after-school environment. This hands-on position works directly with teens, assists with activities and recreation, provides school transportation, supports snacks and program setup, reinforces expectations, and helps maintain a positive and organized teen center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teen Engagement, Safety, and Program Support Build positive, appropriate relationships with middle and high school teens and serve as a positive adult role model. Actively supervise and engage teens throughout the program day, including common areas, activity spaces, the gym, transportation, and off-site activities. Help lead and participate in games, recreation, creative activities, life-skills programming, special projects, and other teen-centered activities. Encourage participation, positive peer interaction, teen leadership, and respectful behavior. Reinforce Rocksolid rules, expectations, and healthy boundaries consistently and positively; respond calmly to concerns using appropriate redirection and established procedures. Assist teens with homework or school-related needs when appropriate and promptly report significant behavioral, medical, or safety concerns to program leadership. Transportation and Daily Operations Safely operate Rocksolid vehicles for school pickup, field trips, outings, and approved program activities while following transportation lists, permissions, capacity limits, and vehicle-safety procedures. Maintain appropriate supervision and behavior expectations during transportation; help keep vehicles fueled, clean, organized, and ready for use and report maintenance or safety concerns. Assist with daily setup, cleanup, snacks, supplies, activity preparation, and organization of program spaces. Help prepare and serve daily snacks and maintain a clean, organized café/snack area. Help maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and organized environment throughout the teen center. Participate in occasional field trips, evening activities, special events, camps, staff meetings, trainings, and fundraising or community activities as assigned. Teamwork and Communication Communicate professionally and respectfully with teens, coworkers, families, volunteers, and community partners while maintaining confidentiality and appropriate boundaries. Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers, provide feedback on teen or program needs, and assist wherever needed to maintain appropriate supervision and program coverage. Perform other duties consistent with the role as assigned by the Program Manager or Executive Director. Required Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age. Genuine interest in working with middle and high school youth and ability to build positive, appropriate relationships with teens. Strong communication, teamwork, judgment, reliability, flexibility, and follow-through skills. Ability to work effectively in an active, lively, and sometimes noisy youth-program environment and respond calmly to changing or challenging situations. Successful background check and fingerprinting; valid Washington State driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must meet Rocksolid requirements when operating organization vehicles. Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification within the timeframe established by Rocksolid. Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience working with middle or high school youth in an after-school program, recreation program, school, camp, coaching, mentoring, childcare, church, or community setting. Experience leading group activities, recreation, games, or youth programming and/or transporting youth in a passenger van. Physical and Scheduling Requirements This active, youth-focused position requires regular supervision of teens in indoor, outdoor, gym, transportation, and field-trip settings; effective in-person communication; frequent standing and movement throughout program spaces; and occasional lifting or movement of program materials or supplies weighing approximately 25 pounds. The regular schedule is approximately 25 hours per week, Monday-Friday, generally 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM during the school year. This position does not include regular summer hours. Limited summer hours may be available when Rocksolid offers summer camps, special programs, staff training, community events, or other approved activities. Occasional adjusted hours may also be required for field trips, meetings, or special events.
