Job Description

Do you enjoy working with bikes, sharing your skills with others, and helping young people build confidence on two wheels? Join Intercity Transit's Walk N Roll team as our Bike Mechanic & Education Assistant ! In this hands-on role, you'll help keep Walk N Roll's bicycles safe, reliable, and ready to ride while supporting bicycle education programs for middle and high school students. You'll use your bicycle mechanic skills to perform maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections; teach youth basic bike maintenance, repair, and safe cycling practices; and guide volunteers and program participants as they repair and refurbish bicycles. You'll also support the day-to-day needs of Walk N Roll programs by helping transport and organize bicycles, equipment, and program materials and assisting with outreach and program activities. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with bikes, engaging with youth and the community, and using their skills to support safe and accessible bicycling.

Bicycle mechanic skills. Ability to educate others. High level of personal accountability for the quality, safety, and impact of your work. Experience working with youth. Ability to create a welcoming environment for people of all races, ages, genders, abilities and backgrounds. Bicycle safety and handling skills. Then this position is for you! This position is partially supported by funding from Washington's Climate Commitment Act. The CCA supports Washington's climate action efforts by putting cap-and-invest dollars into work reducing climate pollution, creating jobs, and improving public health. Information about the CCA is available at www.climate.wa.gov . This is a part-time, 30-hour-per-week position . The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday and will include frequent evening and weekend hours to support Walk N Roll programs and activities. This position is grant-funded through June 30, 2027 , with the potential for continuation contingent upon future grant funding. As a Bike Mechanic & Education Assistant , you will: Provide instruction to youth on basic bicycle maintenance, repair, and safe cycling practices. Instruct, guide, and support volunteers and program participants in repairing and refurbishing bicycles. Perform routine maintenance, repair, and safety inspections to ensure all program bicycles are ride-ready. Assist with moving, loading, transporting, storing, organizing, and inventorying bicycles, equipment, and program materials. Drive a van and trailer to transport youth participants, bicycles, and program supplies. Support outreach, data entry, and collection of information for program reporting. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. Must meet regular time and attendance standards. Are you the one we are looking for? Experience in bicycle mechanics, riding safety, education, youth development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge of:
Bicycle maintenance and repair. Bicycle safety principles. Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment.
Skill in:
Bicycle mechanic skills and ability to ensure bicycles are in safe riding condition. Safe, legal, and competent cycling skills. Ability to work with the public, youth, educators, and a wide range of stakeholders. Using computers and related software applications. Ability to safely operate program van and trailer. Prioritizing work and performing multiple tasks.
Licensing and Background Requirements:
Must submit to a criminal background check, with results meeting Intercity Transit's hiring criteria for the position.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Semi-Physical Work:
Exerting up to 30 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects. Requires walking up to 2 (two) miles and biking of 5-20 miles on occasion. What's in it for you?
