Assistant Teacher - Plymouth Forest Montessori (Nature-Based Montessori Preschool)
Schedule:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00pm-4:30, Fridays from 12-4:30 (more hours may be available)

End Date:
June 4, 2027 Potential for employment to continue for the 2027-28 school year if both parties agree. About Us Plymouth Forest Montessori is a nature-based Montessori preschool located on the beautiful grounds of Camp Anokijig. We blend Montessori philosophy with nature immersion to provide a safe, child-led environment for free-play. We are seeking a calm, warm, dependable assistant teacher who loves being outside in every season and enjoys supporting young children's independence. Position Overview The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Montessori Guide in maintaining a peaceful, well-prepared indoor classroom and an outdoor learning environment that provides appropriate opportunities to participate in risky play. This role includes helping children ages 2.5-6, supervising outdoor exploration, assisting with daily routines, and ensuring safety and well-being. Responsibilities Support the Lead Teacher in daily routines, transitions, and classroom management Supervise children during indoor work and extensive outdoor play Model respect, kindness, independence, and grace & courtesy Help maintain a clean, orderly Montessori environment Assist with materials, observations and preparation as asked Communicate effectively and positively with children, staff and families Uphold commitment to outdoor learning in all weather (rain, snow, mud, cold, heat) Follow all Wisconsin DCF licensing rules and Plymouth Forest Montessori policies Required Qualifications (per
WI DCF 251
Licensing Rules) Candidates must meet at least one of the required assistant teacher qualification pathways: Be at least 18 years old Have completed high school or equivalent ONE of the following: Completed Intro to the Child Care Profession (ICA) course or equivalent Enrolled in an approved early childhood training course and able to complete within 6 months Completed at least 80 days of experience working with children under age 7 Currently enrolled in an early childhood education college program Holds related coursework in education, child development, or similar fields
Additional DCF Requirements:
Must complete required trainings within timelines (e.g. CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter/Child Abuse & Neglect, Abusive Head Trauma) Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check (fingerprinting required) Must be able to pass a physical exam Preferred Experience Experience working with children ages 2.5-6 Familiarity with Montessori philosophy and nature-based early childhood programs Comfort spending extended periods outdoors in all seasons Ability to follow a child-centered, respectful teaching approach Strong communication, patience, reliability, and emotional maturity Genuine love for early childhood education Why Join Plymouth Forest Montessori?
