A Teacher Assistant assists classroom teachers by providing extra individual attention and instruction to students. Helps teachers with recordkeeping, preparation for lessons and activities and supervising students. May work with special education students, or work in a school library or computer lab; may be called teacher aide or paraprofessional.
Be at least 18 years old. Possess or obtain ECCAT Temporary Authorization as required by law. Completion of successful background check.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide and Collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction. Read to students and participate in other forms of oral communication with students. Administer, score, and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher. Operate and care for classroom and office equipment including computers. Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students. Assist with maintaining a structured learning environment through appropriate organization of time, space arrangements, and material organization. Implement social, tangible, token activity, and other contingency environmental stimuli to manage behavior and bring about behavioral changes. Create and follow lesson plans developed for instructional, social, academic, and emotional skills and objectives. Participate in staff development training for the purpose of enhancing skills. Attend staff meetings & trainings. Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director, Center Director, or Teacher. Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities. Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips. Enforce administration policies and rules governing students. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage. Organize and label materials and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills. Carry out therapeutic regimens, such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special education instructors, psychologists, or speech-language pathologists. Maintain accurate attendance and food sheet records daily. Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress or problems. Requisition and stock teaching materials and supplies.
