Paraprofessional
  • Specialized Populations
POSITION SUMMARY
The paraprofessional for Specialized Student Populations provides targeted instructional support to meet the diverse learning needs of students, with a focus on multilingual learners (MLs/ELLs), gifted and talented students, students accessing extensions, and other identified groups requiring differentiated services. Under the direction of the ELL Coordinator and Chief Academic Officer, the paraprofessional assists in implementing individualized and small-group interventions, supports classroom and small-group learning, and helps ensure that students have meaningful access to academic content. The position fosters a supportive learning environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity while promoting English proficiency and academic success. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year, with the first day of required duty being August 20, 2026.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Paraprofessional
  • Specialized Populations:
    Reinforces lessons and concepts introduced by the teacher to build listening, speaking, reading, writing skills.
  • Assists students in understanding academic content and classroom assignments across subject areas.
  • Under supervisor direction, delivers small-group and individualized instruction tailored to student strengths, needs, and learning goals.
  • Supports language development and academic vocabulary acquisition for English Learners.
  • Modifies and adapts instructional materials to support student comprehension and participation.
  • Implements evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions aligned with student data.
  • Maintains accurate records of interventions delivered.
  • Under supervisor direction, monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Assists in completing ELL testing requirements.
  • Provides translation or interpretation assistance, when qualified, to facilitate communication among students, families, and school personnel.
  • Maintains a variety of materials (e.g. instructional materials, files, records, charts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of ensuring students are in a safe and appropriate environment.
  • Promotes good study habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes.
  • Manages a variety of assigned activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive school environment.
  • Provides feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teachers and administrators of student progress.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources for the purpose of solving problems, providing information, and directing to other sources.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, school drills, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Attends meetings (e.g., in-service presentations and staff meetings) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District.
  • Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Ability to use effective communication skills; strong content and pedagogical knowledge including ELL and G/T instructional strategies; knowledge of education law and regulations; ability to use time effectively; strong organizational skills; ability to maintain positive, collaborative relationships with staff and supervisors; knowledge of child development and diverse learning needs; ability to lead meetings; and ability to help groups achieve consensus.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory:
Minimum of high school education or GED.
Work Experience:
At least 3 years of experience as an elementary teacher Spanish language skills strongly preferred.
Preferred:
1+ years of experience working in a school is preferred. Bilingual ability in English and another language, preferably Spanish, is strongly preferred.

Mental Requirements:
read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile, and coordinate information and records.•
Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities:
Requires travel to multiple sites.

  • Evaluation of this position shall be by the Chief Academic Officer / ELL Coordinator.
