Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Current Wyoming Substitute Teacher Certificate. Minimum of 21 years of age and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Capable of obtaining and maintaining intermediate certification in the Mandt System® of nonphysical and physical intervention with aggressive youth.

Job Summary:

Assist school teachers with the care, health, safety and education experience of each child assigned using the Teaching Family Model of behavior modification. Resident and staff privacy and confidentiality is protected at all times. Minimum necessary access to resident and staff records and information is assigned based on the job duties and responsibilities outlined below.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain Wyoming Substitute Teaching certification by taking the required number of PTSB credit hours. Assist and take direction from the assigned classroom teachers(s) as needed or assigned. Adequately assume the role of assigned teachers(s) in their absence. Provide direction to substitutes. Provide direct instruction for some classes or segments of classes as needed or assigned. Manage in-school suspension room as assigned or when needed. Facilitate or co-facilitate assigned activity period. Enter school progress notes into the TIER system. Demonstrates a willingness to work with and understand the cultural differences within the resident and staff populations. Role models in a professional manner, appropriate dress, respect, honesty and behavior at all times to the residents and co-workers. Job Description - Educational Assistant - Page 2 Will follow established procedures in the dispensing of medications to ensure the residents receive schedule prescribed medications on time and in the proper dosage. Facilitate or co-facilitate groups as assigned and record progress notes. Will work shifts assigned by living unit during school vacations and summer school session breaks following established procedures on assigned unit. (Shifts include day or evening hours.) Work on units may include assistance with special projects including but not limited to the animal programs, which may include assisting residents with feeding, watering, and maintaining the animal living areas for cleanliness. Will attend all required meetings and complete satisfactorily all training as scheduled to meet standards for on-going education annually. Writes clear, concise and descriptive reports, including, but not limited to STI's, Report of Contact, Incident Reports, in the predetermined time frame allowed. Using the Teaching Family Model, builds a positive, caring, professional relation- ship with the residents. Ensures that all residents are treated with dignity and respect at all times, are treated age appropriately at all times, and their rights are not violated. Ensures the mission of St. Joseph's, including the spiritual formation of residents, is an integral part of the healing process. Performs other duties as assigned. High School diploma or equivalent.
