Position Overview We are seeking compassionate, energetic, and relationship-focused Academic Tutors to join our multidisciplinary team. Under the guidance of a credentialed teacher, Academic Tutors provide individualized and small-group instruction to children and adolescents, helping students strengthen academic skills, build confidence, and become more independent and successful learners. Academic Tutors work with students across a variety of subject areas and skill levels using engaging, evidence-based instructional strategies and SHINE-provided resources. Depending on student needs and tutor experience, services may include foundational reading, writing, and mathematics instruction; homework and organizational support; study skills; academic enrichment; and targeted practice of individualized learning goals. This position is an excellent opportunity for experienced tutors, retired educators, substitute teachers, instructional assistants, recent college graduates, and college students pursuing degrees in education, child development, psychology, speech-language pathology, or related fields. Key Academic Tutor Responsibilities Create a warm, structured, and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe, respected, supported, and motivated to learn Build positive, encouraging relationships with students while maintaining clear and developmentally appropriate expectations for participation, effort, and behavior Provide individualized and small-group academic instruction under the guidance of a credentialed teacher Implement instructional plans, learning goals, and academic activities developed or approved by SHINE's credentialed educational staff Provide targeted instruction and practice in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, homework completion, study skills, organization, and academic enrichment based on student needs and tutor qualifications Use engaging, evidence-based instructional strategies and SHINE-provided resources to support academic growth Adapt the presentation, pacing, level of support, and instructional materials within established learning plans to respond to individual student strengths and needs Provide appropriate scaffolding, modeling, guided practice, feedback, and opportunities for independent application of skills Support students in developing effective study habits, organizational skills, learning strategies, executive functioning skills, and increasing independence Reinforce foundational academic skills and provide opportunities for repeated practice and skill generalization Encourage curiosity, problem-solving, perseverance, and a growth mindset while helping students develop confidence as learners Facilitate engaging enrichment activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and academic exploration Monitor student performance through observation, work samples, curriculum-based measures, and other progress-monitoring tools identified by SHINE Accurately collect and document student progress data and communicate observations to the supervising credentialed teacher Use student performance and feedback from the supervising teacher to adjust day-to-day instructional strategies and supports Complete required session documentation accurately and within established timelines Communicate professionally and positively with parents and caregivers regarding session activities and student participation, consistent with SHINE communication protocols Maintain professional boundaries and protect student and family confidentiality in accordance with SHINE policies Collaborate with credentialed teachers, therapists, administrators, and other SHINE team members to provide coordinated support for students Participate in training, supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities as required Maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and instructionally appropriate learning space Follow all SHINE policies and procedures related to student safety, confidentiality, documentation, professional conduct, and mandated reporting Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required;
