About the Role Diversified Education Services is seeking a warm, experienced special education teacher for a temporary, part-time, in-person assignment with one ninth-grade student in Fairfield County, CT. The student is a bright, funny, social young woman with Down syndrome who is currently learning in a home-based program funded by her school district while a school placement is finalized. The assignment is expected to run through at least December 2026 and may extend depending on the transition timeline. You will teach 9th-grade Global Studies/World History with embedded reading and writing, following an essentialized planning guide prepared by the family's educational consultant. Sessions are one-to-one and take place in reserved study rooms at Greenwich public libraries. This is instructional work; all scheduling, contracting, and billing are handled by DES. Schedule and Location Two 2-hour sessions per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, approximately 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM In person only, at Greenwich Library (main branch) or Byram Shubert Library; no virtual sessions except for illness or weather Up to 2 hours per week of paid planning time, plus one billable monthly team meeting Start date: as soon as possible (mid-September 2026) Fixed day/time schedule; 48-hour rescheduling policy What You Will Do Deliver engaging, individualized instruction in Global Studies with a reading/writing component, using the consultant's Essentialized Planning Guide and scope and sequence Build lesson materials from scratch when needed: Google Slides decks (the student's preferred format), vocabulary sheets, comprehension worksheets and graphic organizers in Kami, and adapted readings — the district does not supply a curriculum or textbooks Structure every session with a relational check-in, visual schedule, warm-up, mini-lesson, guided practice, a game or movement break, and a closing celebration Use spiraled review and repeated practice, chunk work into no more than two problems at a time, provide extended processing time, read directions aloud, and reduce written output demands Accommodate sensory needs: large-print and enlarged reference materials, digital copies on Chromebook/iPad, movement and mindful-minute breaks Collect bi-weekly progress data and complete quarterly progress reports on the consultant's template Meet one-to-one with the educational consultant for planning, and attend a monthly team meeting with the family, consultant, and related-service providers Communicate regularly with the family so the student can preview content at home Work comfortably with a parent sitting in on or near early sessions Who You Are Required Connecticut special education certification (Comprehensive Special Education, PreK-12 or equivalent) or comparable credential and background Direct experience teaching students with Down syndrome or other intellectual/developmental disabilities who are verbal, literate, and academically engaged Trauma-informed, calm, and skilled at de-escalation; you read guarded, resistant, or "replay" behavior as communication and know how to redirect without a power struggle Comfortable creating adapted content-area lessons for secondary students with minimal provided curriculum Available during school-day hours, Tuesdays and Thursdays, in person in Greenwich Strong rapport-building skills, patience, and a good sense of humor Proficient with Google Workspace (Slides, Docs, Drive), Kami, Chromebook, and iPad Preferred Experience with adolescents in home-based or homebound programs and with IEP-driven instruction, goal input, and progress monitoring Familiarity with essentialized/modified general-education curriculum and credit-bearing requirements for high school Background in ABA, structured literacy (e.g., Wilson/Fundations), or executive function coaching Experience collaborating with an inclusion facilitator, social worker, or OT as part of a support team Support You Will Receive Full onboarding packet: the student's Strengths-Based Support Plan, current IEP, the Global Studies planning guide and resource folders, prior lesson materials, and the team's proactive behavior support plan A meet-and-greet with the student and family before the first instructional session The option of a licensed social worker or the educational consultant observing or co-teaching early sessions Direct access to Aron Boxer, Founder/CEO, and the DES admin team for anything non-instructional

Pay:

$90.00 - $100.00 per hour Expected hours: 4.0 - 8.0 per week
