Academic Tutor - Math & Reading | Bilingual English/Spanish Think Wise Tutoring is seeking academically strong, responsible, patient, and dependable tutors to provide in-person academic support to elementary and/or middle school students, who can clearly explain concepts, guide students through school assignments, and adapt their instruction to each student's academic level. Think Wise provides the instructional materials, student folders, and academic programs — you focus on helping the student understand and succeed.

EDUCATION & ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

We welcome applicants with strong academic backgrounds, including: AP, Honors, Dual Enrollment, or academically advanced high school seniors High-achieving college students College students enrolled in Honors or advanced academic programs College graduates with strong academic backgrounds Applicants should be academically confident and comfortable working with elementary and/or middle school academic material.

BILINGUAL REQUIREMENT

Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in both languages when needed.

AVAILABILITY

Minimum availability: Monday-Thursday, 3:00 PM-7:00 PM Additional hours may become available Monday-Friday, approximately 2:00 PM-7:00 PM, as enrollment grows. Consistent weekday availability is required.

MATH SKILLS

Candidates should be comfortable teaching and explaining: Multi-step word problems Long multiplication and division Fractions and decimals Elementary geometry Area and perimeter Formulas and mathematical concepts Geometric shapes and their properties Pre Algebra & Algebra knowledge is a plus but not required. Tutors must be able to explain mathematical concepts clearly and adjust explanations to the student's grade level and understanding.

READING & LANGUAGE ARTS

Candidates should be able to: Analyze grade-level reading passages Teach reading comprehension strategies Strengthen reading skills Explain basic grammar Guide students through essay writing Help students organize and communicate their ideas Adjust instruction according to the student's academic level

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Tutors will: Provide individualized academic support to students. Help students understand and complete school assignments. Break difficult concepts into manageable steps. Identify areas where students need additional academic support. Explain concepts clearly and patiently according to the student's academic level. Encourage students to develop independent learning and problem-solving skills. Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Communicate clearly and professionally in both languages when needed. Follow individualized assignments, instructions, and instructional materials prepared and provided by Think Wise Tutoring Center for each student.

TEACHING MATERIALS & INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT

Think Wise Tutoring provides the instructional structure and materials used during tutoring sessions. Tutors will use the instructional materials, academic resources, and programs provided by Think Wise Tutoring. Each student's folder will contain the assignments, activities, instructions, and materials needed for the student's tutoring sessions. Tutors are not expected to create their own curriculum or prepare lesson materials from scratch. Tutors are responsible for reviewing the materials provided, understanding the student's assigned work, and delivering instruction according to the student's needs and the center's guidelines. Tutors should follow the individualized work prepared for each student while providing explanations, guidance, and academic support.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Tutors work in a structured, in-person tutoring environment where students receive individualized academic support. The goal is to help students understand their schoolwork, strengthen academic skills, complete assignments, and become more confident and independent learners.
