Job Description

City Year is seeking an Academic Tutor to support students' academic and social-emotional growth in partner public schools. In this full-time role, you will provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, track student progress, and collaborate with teachers to align support with classroom instruction. You will serve as a mentor and positive role model, helping students build confidence, set goals, and develop effective learning habits. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring in core subjects such as math and reading Reinforce classroom instruction through targeted practice activities and skill-building exercises Build positive, supportive mentoring relationships with students to encourage engagement and confidence Monitor, document, and report student progress and participation to teachers and City Year staff Collaborate daily with teachers and school staff to align tutoring with classroom goals Assist in managing classroom behavior and fostering an inclusive, respectful learning environment Support the planning and facilitation of enrichment, after-school, or homework help sessions Promote students' social-emotional learning, including goal-setting, self-management, and teamwork Participate in City Year trainings, coaching, and professional development opportunities Contribute to a collaborative Ameri Corps team culture focused on equity, social justice, and student success Required Skills Tutoring and academic intervention in math and reading Classroom support and behavior management Student mentoring and relationship-building Data tracking and basic progress monitoring Written and verbal communication Collaboration with teachers and school staff Basic technology and online learning platforms Time management and organization Culturally responsive and inclusive practices Facilitation of small groups and activities
