City Year is seeking an Academic Tutor to support students' academic and social-emotional growth in partner public schools. In this full-time role, you will provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, track student progress, and collaborate with teachers to align support with classroom instruction. You will serve as a mentor and positive role model, helping students build confidence, set goals, and develop effective learning habits. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects Support classroom instruction alongside teachers during the school day Mentor students to build social-emotional skills, confidence, and engagement Track and document student attendance, behavior, and academic progress Communicate regularly with school staff about student needs and progress Assist with planning and leading enrichment, after-school, and homework programs Create an inclusive, supportive learning environment aligned with City Year values Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and professional development sessions Collaborate with a diverse Ameri Corps team to meet school and student goals Engage families and community partners when appropriate to support student success Required Skills Academic tutoring (reading, writing, and/or math) Classroom support and instruction assistance Behavior management and student engagement Data tracking and basic progress monitoring Lesson and activity planning support Youth mentoring and relationship-building Communication with teachers and school staff Basic educational technology and e-learning tools Cultural competency and DEI awareness in school settings Time management and organizational skills
