Job Description

You are applying because your mission is to provide the best education to every student. At Huntington Learning Center, we're seeking passionate English, reading, and writing educators to help K-12 students strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and achieve their goals. You'll work one-on-one and in small group settings (max 4:1 student to teacher ratio) with students, providing personalized instruction in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and English language arts. As an ACT and SAT English/Reading tutor , you'll help students develop the skills and strategies needed to succeed on the verbal portions of these exams. This includes reading comprehension, grammar and usage, rhetorical skills, vocabulary, sentence structure, organization, and interpreting passages and supporting evidence. You'll also help students develop effective test-taking strategies, manage their time, and approach different question types with confidence. Experience with ACT, SAT, or other standardized test preparation is a strong plus. As a K-12 English and Language Arts tutor , you'll work with students across a wide range of ages and abilities. For elementary and middle school students, instruction may include reading fluency and comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, writing, and foundational language skills. For high school students, you may provide support in English, Honors English, AP English Language, AP English Literature, and other advanced coursework, including literary analysis, essay writing, research papers, grammar, and effective communication. As a reading and writing tutor , you'll help students become stronger and more independent readers and writers. This may include identifying main ideas, making inferences, analyzing an author's purpose and tone, understanding supporting evidence, brainstorming and organizing ideas, developing a thesis, structuring essays, and revising and editing written work. Students may range from those strengthening foundational skills to advanced high school students preparing for college-level work. At Huntington, flexibility is one of our greatest strengths. Even teachers who are available only two or three days per week can make a meaningful impact. Since we're open six days a week, we'll create a schedule that works for you. Students bring their own school materials, and we provide Huntington curriculum and materials as well, allowing you to focus on what you do best— teaching, motivating, and helping students grow . Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree or higher in English, English Literature, Education, Communications, Journalism, Writing, or a related field . Strong candidates with degrees in other disciplines may also be considered if they have significant experience teaching or tutoring English, reading, writing, or test preparation. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to explain challenging concepts in a clear and approachable way. Experience working with K-12 students, high school English, AP English, ACT, SAT, or other standardized test preparation is preferred. If you're passionate about helping students become stronger readers, writers, and communicators, we'd love for you to join our team. Hours of Operation Monday to
