Upward Bound is seeking qualified tutors to provide academic support to high school students in both one-on-one and group settings. Upward Bound tutors provide subject-matter assistance and homework support during individual and group drop-in sessions. Responsibilities include reviewing course materials, discussing texts, working through practice and test questions, and providing feedback on written assignments. Tutors also model the study habits, strategies, attitudes, and behaviors of successful learners. This position requires strong communication, interpersonal, and instructional skills, as well as the ability to effectively use technology to support tutoring sessions. Successful Upward Bound tutors take a holistic approach to student success, bring enthusiasm and encouragement to each session, and collaborate effectively with colleagues. Tutors should be able to work respectfully and constructively with students from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, language groups, and abilities. Tutors are assigned a consistent schedule of one or more days based on availability. Schedules may be adjusted based on student needs and program demand. Additional shifts may also be available to assist with monthly field trips and other Upward Bound activities. We are currently seeking tutors in the following subject areas: Writing Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Anatomy and Physiology Algebra through Calculus Minimum Qualifications Associate or bachelor's degree required. Demonstrated proficiency in the subject area(s) to be tutored. Experience teaching or tutoring students at the high school or postsecondary level.
