Job Description

The tutor provides individual and group tutoring to students and assists in the delivery of plans and programs to address their needs as directed by the special education teacher. The tutor may conduct informal assessments with children and/or perform other tasks related to improving student performance. This position consists of direct services to children and is a supplement to teaching. The tutor provides instructional support to high school students. The successful candidate will have an understanding of current instructional practices and assessments. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate and collaborate effectively with students and staff. The special education tutor may assist in collecting data, facilitating communication, making accommodations or modifications to the curriculum, and/or performing other tasks related to improving student performance, as assigned by the special education teacher. This position provides direct services to high school students. A bachelor's degree is required.

Responsibilities:

1. Guide, supervise, and coordinate the daily classroom activities as directed by the special education teacher and prepare lesson materials.

2. Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of a special education teacher. Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of learning styles and emotional challenges under the direction and guidance of the special education teacher and/or administrator.

3. Assist the special education teacher/case manager with implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications, and perform other classroom-related tasks in general education classes and special education classes.

4. Listen and communicate effectively and professionally with all students, staff, and, when necessary, parents.
