Job Description The Academic Success Center (ASC) is seeking innovative and compassionate individuals to provide academic support to HCC students by promoting effective study habits and learning strategies while assisting students with course content. There are Tutors available during all hours of operation to work with students in a variety of formats including individual, group, walk-in, and in-class learning sessions. Ideal candidates work collaboratively and effectively with students of all academic backgrounds. This position directly supports the College's Strategic Plan by providing support and intervention to eradicate attainment gaps based on income, race, gender, and ethnicity. Tutors conduct individualized, group, and walk-in sessions for HCC students. These sessions are designed to help students develop study skills and become independent learners. Duties include, but are not limited to, promoting a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment in the ASC; assisting students in learning course content by referring to the student's class notes, assignments, and class resources; promoting study skills and learning strategies; conducting outreach activities to advertise the services of the ASC; attending training sessions to become College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified; and following the policies and procedures of the ASC and Harford Community College. Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement. Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled at HCC, those with prior experience as a tutor, or individuals able to assist in high-need subject areas, including Nursing, Biology, Chemistry, Accounting, and/or English. Required Education Successful completion of at least six credits of college-level courses with at least a B average. Required Experience Demonstrated experience working with students of diverse backgrounds. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Demonstrated proficiency of course content within one or more of the following academic divisions at Harford Community College with a final grade of B or higher in an equivalent college-level course: Arts & Humanities Behavioral & Social Sciences Business & Applied Technology Nursing & Allied Health Professions Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment to achieve shared goals. Strong critical-thinking and assessment skills to evaluate student needs and provide tailored academic support. Demonstrated experience supporting or engaging students with a wide range of backgrounds and learning needs. General Weekly Work Schedule Work schedules are based on Academic Success Center coverage needs and employee availability.
