Evaluation Procedures:
Student workers are evaluated on a continuous basis.
Scope:
The Academic Success Coach supports Power Hour, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carroll County's structured academic support program for students in grades 1-12. Academic Success Coaches work individually and with small groups to complete homework, strengthen academic skills, and ensure each student participates in meaningful academic activities. Coaches will typically be assigned to specific schools or grade levels to provide consistent support and build relationships with students.
Responsibilities:
Provide individual and small-group homework support to elementary, middle, and/or high school students. Assist students in math, English language arts, science, social studies, and other grade-level courses. Help students understand assignments without completing the work for them. Lead provided academic activities when students do not have homework. Support academic skills such as organization, time management, study habits, and assignment tracking. Use resources and problem-solving strategies when assisting with unfamiliar subjects or assignments. Assist with monitoring the academic progress of designated students when parent permission and grade information are available. Communicate student needs, concerns, and progress to Club staff. Maintain a patient, positive, and focused learning environment during Power Hour.
Schedule:
2:30PM•5:00PM (Shifts are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday) Must work one or more consistent days each week (at least two days per week preferred). Applicants must reliably attend their assigned weekly shifts. Assignments will be based on availability, academic strengths, and program needs.

Qualifications:
Current undergraduate student at McDaniel College. Eligible for Federal Work Study as part of a Financial Aid Package. Ability to explain academic concepts clearly and supports students without simply providing answers. Strong communication, patience, dependability, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with individual strengths and small groups. Willingness to use provided materials, online resources, and other tools to address unfamiliar assignments. Ability to explain concepts clearly and encourage students to work independently. Must be able to transport self to location.
Preferred Qualifications:
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Second-semester first-year student or above. Previous tutoring, mentoring, teaching, or youth development experience. Broad knowledge of elementary subjects or strength in specific middle or high school subjects.
