POSITION SUMMARY

The Academic & Success Coach for the EXCEL erator at SCC provides personalized academic support, focusing on student success in a wide range of courses and disciplines. This role involves coaching students on effective study techniques, time management, and goal setting, while coordinating workshops, tutoring sessions, and collaborating with faculty to enhance the student experience. SCC is particularly interested in team members with a passion for student success and the drive to ensure students are maximizing their potential at the college. In this role, the Academic & Success Coach will provide one-on-one coaching to students, focusing on study techniques, time management, and strategies for mastering their respective subjects. The Academic & Success Coach will actively promote tutoring and coaching services on and off campus for their respective discipline, encouraging students to seek assistance and utilize the robust services the EXCEL erator is offering. Support the Director in developing marketing strategies to increase participation in their respective discipline. The Academic & Success Coaches must work closely with faculty, advisors, and other campuses regarding their respective disciplines, ensuring students have access to resources for comprehensive academic support. The Academic & Success Coach must participate in campus-wide initiatives aimed at improving student retention and student success in their field of discipline. SCC has numerous discipline-focused tutors at the institution: Biology, Chemistry , Math, and Writing. Although the foundation of The Academic & Success Coach is the same, each discipline will require different knowledge, experience, and criteria to be met. The Academic & Success Coach will help students to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills, lead workshops on respective disciplines, including scientific and generic study strategies, lab techniques (as necessary), and exam preparation. They must also contribute to the development and assessment of tools that measure the effectiveness of tutoring and coaching services for their discipline. These are some of the responsibilities required: Biology

• Assist students with challenging topics such as cell biology, genetics, anatomy, and ecology. Chemistry
• Assist students with challenging topics within the field of beginning and advanced chemistry (with or without lab). Physics knowledge and experience, preferred. Math
• Assist students in topics ranging from pre-algebra to advanced mathematics (differential equations). Physics knowledge and experience, preferred. Writing
• Assists in topics "writing across the curriculum", involving all stages of writing in any discipline involving written assignments.

Working with English Second Language (ESL) program students is required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Demonstrated commitment to supporting academic programs through quality and excellence. Leads discussion of textbooks, open education resources, and classroom material adoption. Effective communication and leadership traits regarding empathy, transparency, authenticity, and conflict resolution is critical to the success of this position. As an institutional leader, setting the example while maintaining a collegial approach to their work will ensure student-success is championed in The EXCELerator. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with individuals from a variety of multi-cultural backgrounds. Position requires related duties as assigned. Requires regular and predictable attendance.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Master's degree in appropriate supported discipline Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, Writing, etc. or related field. Six (6) months experience tutoring or student services within a Higher Education institution preferred. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Knowledge and experience with tutoring and teaching online, preferred.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Generally, reports to the Director of EXCELerator; but may vary upon organizational need.
