About Us:

Chautauqua Striders is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting youth through education, mentoring, and athletics. In partnership with Jamestown Public Schools, YMCA and YWCA of Jamestown, the after-school program creates safe, supportive spaces for students to grow academically and socially.

Position Summary:

The Academic Tutor is responsible for creating enrichment activities in literacy and math for students in grades 5-8 and assisting all grade levels with homework. Tutors will complete lesson plans and prepare enrichment materials based on each grade level's academic needs. Tutor-to-student ratio should not exceed 1:10. Tutors are responsible for academic enrichment as well as adhering to OCFS guidelines and site rules and expectations.

The schedule typically looks like:

Supervise students while they have snack and listen to the rules and expectations for the day. 3:30

Provide your first group of students with an engaging lesson and activity and assist with homework. 4:15

Provide your second group of students with an engaging lesson and activity and assist with homework. 5

PM:

Supervise students during free time in the gym or other area. Clean up your space and prepare for the next day.

Key Responsibilities:

Tutors may be responsible for assisting students with homework. Foster a positive, encouraging learning environment. Develop and deliver engaging lessons to support skills being taught in the classroom. Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs. Maintain a respectful and well-managed classroom.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years or older Strong behavior management skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Flexible and adaptable to student needs Reliable and punctual Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a plus Experience in tutoring, teaching, or mentoring (preferred)
