Job Description

The Professional Tutor role plays a vital part in the growth and continued development of the Tutoring and Learning Center ( TLC ) . Working closely with supervisors and other TLC staff, Professional Tutors deliver high-level academic support to students across a wide range of courses. Establishing these positions as full-time roles strengthens the department's resources while helping retain skilled and experienced tutors. This approach supports the TLC's mission and advances Sinclair's goal of being the "College of Choice." It also reflects research emphasizing the importance of consistent support and accessible services. In this role, Professional Tutors bring a strong understanding of the institution and the specific needs of Sinclair students. Current content areas that the Tutoring and Learning Center is looking for support in include: Writing Lab (English composition, social sciences, communication, and general writing support for health sciences and other content areas) or biology (general biology, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology). This is a full-time position with regularly scheduled hours to be in-person on the Dayton campus. The salary for this position begins at $49,701.00 and is commensurate with education and experience. Principal Accountabilities Develop and deliver culturally responsive academic support through one-on-one appointments, walk-in labs, student-facing resources, communicating with students asynchronously, and workshops and presentations in collaboration with Tutoring and Learning Center staff and faculty partners Propose, develop, implement, and assess initiatives that correspond with departmental key results and goals to refine student experience and TLC programming including coordinating with TLC area supervisors to develop and lead department staff training Increase department engagement by representing the TLC at classroom visits, campus events, faculty and staff department meetings, and campus committees Requirements Minimum of a bachelor's degree with one (1) year in education or similar field required; master's degree in content area tutored or in education preferred Minimum of two (2) years of previous tutoring or teaching experience required; experience working with a diverse student population preferred Direct experience working with students required Experience with Learning Management Systems and Student Information Systems preferred Experience with data analytics tools and/or student outcomes reporting preferred Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill with communication, patience, problem solving, listening, dependability, teaching, leadership, and adaptability needed to serve students is required Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills and ability to speak effectively to diverse audiences including administrators, faculty, and students required Must work effectively in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with frequent interruptions, providing customer service and managing multiple concurrent assignments as required Familiarity with Zoom and Microsoft Outlook and MS Office applications preferred Strong organization and time management skills required Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and produce accurate work on time and under pressure preferred Ability to manage communication quickly through digital channels such as Outlook and Zoom preferred
