Job Title CSWS Reading Tutor - Catholic Charities of Oregon Department Moreau Center Terms and Hours Up to 20 hours/week Job Category Student Employment Hourly Wage $16.80/hour Job Summary This is a Community Service Work Study student employment position. Applicants must have Federal Work Study funds in their Financial Aid package. Support young, preschool children (under the age of 5) from refugee backgrounds by fostering early exposure to English in a caring, play-based environment. This role combines language engagement, creative play, and cultural sensitivity to help children feel comfortable and supported while their parents participate in resettlement activities or appointments.

Schedule:
Required every Wednesday from 9:30-12:30, the remaining hours are flexible within the parameter of M-F 9-5
Note:
Student may not earn more than $2,000 total in this position, which equates to 118 hours during the Spring semester. Core Duties Read books aloud in English to promote early language familiarity. Create opportunities for English exposure through play, songs, and art. Engage children of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds with patience and empathy. Provide gentle, attentive care and attention for children under age 5. Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children. Assist with general office tasks to prepare for and clean up after reading tutor sessions as needed, such as organizing materials, or preparing documents. Communicate any needs or concerns to supervising staff promptly. Other relevant duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must have Federal Work Study fund in Financial Aid Package (contact finaid@up.edu with questions) Must be able to work in-person at Catholic Charities office Must be available Wednesdays 9:30am to 12:30pm. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with people who don't speak English as their primary language Previous experience working with children Speaks Dari or Pashto Physical Requirements Ability to lift 20 lbs Posting Detail Information Posting Number
