Job Type:
 Part-Time, 10-Month Mohawk Valley Community College provides accessible, high-quality educational opportunities to meet the diverse needs of our students. We are the community's college, committed to student success through partnerships, transfer and career pathways, and personal enrichment. The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a Writing Tutor in our Learning Commons. This position helps students build confidence and improve academic performance through holistic support, active learning strategies, study skills development, and individualized instruction. Key responsibilities for this position include: Uses probing questions, active listening, and supported inquiry to help students develop and strengthen their ideas; Provides individualized strategies to strengthen students' writing process; Engages students in active learning practices; Discusses course material to help students gain fluency and confidence in critical thinking; Assists students in developing effective study strategies; Provides encouragement to support student retention and completion; Maintains accurate records and monitor sign-in stations; Refers students to instructors and specialized services such as counseling and advisement as appropriate; Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Learning Commons. The successful candidate is a strong writer and dedicated learner who is comfortable working with students with a range of academic skills and from a variety of backgrounds. Candidate should also be comfortable supporting writing in a variety of disciplines.
Work Schedule:
 The work schedule for this position will be based on the needs of the department and the availability of the applicant.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Significant experience in academic writing including a foundational knowledge of common citation styles Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint Effective verbal communication skills Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in college teaching or tutoring
