Job Description
This is a volunteer position. Would you like to make a profound difference in two lives -- your student's and your own? Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area, a private, non-profit organization founded in 1973, invites you to join our dedicated team of volunteer tutors providing free, confidential, and individualized tutoring in ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) to adults. We recruit, screen, interview, assess and place students on a waiting list until matched with a volunteer tutor. Our waiting list often is 30-40 people. Once we match you with a student, our professional staff provides ongoing support and sponsors activities to help both the student and tutor succeed and achieve the student's goals. If you are passionate about improving lives through education, willing to attend a 2-hour orientation and an 18-hour training to become a skilled ESOL tutor, and can commit to tutoring an adult for at least 2 hours per week for 9-12 months, please respond to this listing and include a brief paragraph explaining why you are interested.
