Job Description
Location:
Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, Broomfield, and surrounding communitiesPosition Type:
Part-Time (2-10+ hours/week)Compensation:
$25-$50/hour, based on experience and subject expertise Learning Mandarin Is About More Than Vocabulary Every language is another way of seeing the world. Learning Mandarin Chinese isn't just about memorizing vocabulary or mastering grammar. It's about connecting with people, understanding culture, appreciating different perspectives, and discovering new ways to communicate and think. For many students, learning a new language can feel intimidating. New vocabulary, unfamiliar grammar, pronunciation, and learning to recognize Chinese characters can make it difficult to build confidence. At Dragonfly Education, we believe the right tutor can make all the difference—not by expecting perfection, but by creating an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and discovering that learning another language can be both rewarding and enjoyable. We're looking for knowledgeable, encouraging Mandarin Chinese Tutors who enjoy helping others learn. Whether you're introducing a student to Mandarin for the first time, helping them develop conversational skills, or helping them recognize and understand Chinese characters, you'll help students develop communication skills, cultural understanding, and confidence they'll carry well beyond the classroom. If you enjoy helping people communicate—not just helping them memorize vocabulary—we'd love to meet you. Why You'll Love Working with Dragonfly Education Great tutors have choices. We believe they deserve a company that values them just as much as the students they teach. Flexible scheduling that works around your classes, career, or family commitments Competitive pay ranging from $25-$50 per hour based on experience and subject expertise The opportunity to choose students who fit your schedule and strengths Thoughtfully matched students—not random assignments One-on-one tutoring where you can build meaningful relationships A supportive local team that's invested in your success Opportunities for both in-home and online tutoring The Students You'll Help Our tutors work with students from early childhood through college, depending on their experience and expertise. This particular opportunity is with a young child who is already fluent in spoken Mandarin. The primary focus will be helping her develop Chinese character recognition and reading skills, including learning about radicals and the structure of Chinese characters. Because she is young, writing Chinese characters is not currently a focus. Instead, we're looking for someone who can make reading and character recognition engaging, meaningful, and age-appropriate. The student also has a strong interest in human anatomy, so the ability to incorporate age-appropriate science, anatomy, or other areas of curiosity into tutoring would be a wonderful bonus. More broadly, Dragonfly students may need support in areas including: Beginning Mandarin Chinese Conversational Mandarin Mandarin Reading Chinese Character Recognition Chinese Radicals Mandarin Vocabulary Mandarin Grammar Reading Comprehension Cultural Understanding Other academic subjects based on the student's interests and needs What You'll Do Every student learns differently. That means every tutoring session looks a little different, too. As a Dragonfly Mandarin Chinese Tutor, you will: Provide engaging one-on-one Mandarin Chinese tutoring Help students develop reading and character-recognition skills Introduce Chinese characters and radicals in meaningful, age-appropriate ways Adapt your teaching approach to each student's developmental level, interests, and goals Encourage curiosity, confidence, and a willingness to make mistakes while learning Follow a student's interests and use them as opportunities for learning Incorporate age-appropriate academic subjects and areas of curiosity when appropriate Communicate student progress with families and the Dragonfly team when appropriate Celebrate progress—both big and small You're a Great Fit If You... Are fluent in spoken Mandarin Chinese Can read and write Mandarin Chinese Enjoy working with children Know how to make language learning engaging and age-appropriate Are patient, dependable, adaptable, and professional Enjoy following a student's curiosity and turning interests into learning opportunities Can explain concepts clearly and find another approach when the first one doesn't click Want to help students become confident communicators and independent learners An interest or background in science, anatomy, education, child development, or other academic subjects is a bonus, but not required. Why Dragonfly Is Different We believe successful tutoring begins with the right relationship. The best tutor isn't always the one with the most experience—it's the one who connects with the student. That's why we thoughtfully match tutors and students based on subject expertise, personality, communication style, learning preferences, scheduling, and educational goals. And if a match isn't quite right? That's okay. Our Tutor Match Guarantee supports both students and tutors because we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed. We're not interested in simply filling schedules—we're committed to building tutoring relationships where students gain confidence and tutors enjoy teaching.
