1099 Contract - Part Time About Clubhouse Kids Clubhouse Kids provides engaging afterschool programming designed to support youth academically, socially, and personally. Our programs create a safe and supportive environment where young people can build academic skills, discover new interests, and develop confidence. We are seeking a passionate and student-focused High-Impact Reading Tutor to provide targeted literacy support to youth at our Crossings Apartments location in Dallas, TX. Position Overview The High-Impact Reading Tutor will be responsible for helping youth strengthen their foundational and grade-level literacy skills through intentional, engaging, and evidence-based reading instruction. This position will focus solely on literacy development and will use principles aligned with the Science of Reading to help students improve skills such as phonics, phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and written expression. The ideal candidate understands that reading instruction should be engaging and individualized. The tutor will use word games, literacy activities, guided reading, skill practice, and other hands-on strategies to make reading both productive and enjoyable. Key ResponsibilitiesHigh-Impact Literacy Instruction Provide daily, targeted literacy instruction to participating youth. Support students in developing foundational reading and language skills. Use instructional practices aligned with the Science of Reading. Provide support in areas such as: Phonemic awareness Phonics and decoding Word recognition Vocabulary development Reading fluency Reading comprehension Spelling and written expression Adjust instruction based on individual student needs and skill levels. Provide additional practice and reinforcement of skills students are learning in school. Help students build confidence and develop a positive relationship with reading. Engaging Literacy Activities Incorporate word games, reading games, literacy challenges, and interactive activities into instruction. Use books, short passages, writing activities, and other age-appropriate materials to build literacy skills. Make reading instruction engaging, interactive, and developmentally appropriate. Encourage students to read independently and explore books that match their interests and reading levels. Create activities that allow students to practice skills without making instruction feel repetitive or discouraging. Student Progress & Support Monitor student participation and progress during literacy sessions. Identify areas where students may need additional support or practice. Maintain appropriate documentation related to student participation and literacy activities. Communicate student progress, challenges, and successes to Clubhouse Kids leadership. Celebrate student growth and encourage continued effort. Maintain a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. Program Support Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming literacy learning environment. Follow Clubhouse Kids policies and procedures related to youth safety, attendance, behavior, and programming. Collaborate with other Clubhouse Kids staff to support the overall success of participating youth. Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities. Help maintain and organize literacy materials, books, games, and instructional resources. What Makes This a "High-Impact" Role? This is not simply a homework-help position. The role requires someone who can recognize where a student is struggling, provide targeted practice, and use engaging strategies to help that student move forward. We are looking for someone who understands that every student can grow as a reader with the right support, instruction, encouragement, and consistency. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who: Is passionate about literacy and helping young people become confident readers. Enjoys working one-on-one and in small groups with youth. Is patient, encouraging, and able to meet students where they are. Understands that students learn at different rates and in different ways. Can make literacy instruction fun and engaging. Is comfortable using word games, reading activities, books, and hands-on learning strategies. Is willing to learn and apply Science of Reading-aligned instructional practices. Is dependable, organized, and consistent. Can build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate academic expectations. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or working with youth. Experience providing reading or literacy intervention. Coursework or experience in education, literacy, reading instruction, child development, or a related field. Familiarity with the Science of Reading, structured literacy, phonics, or evidence-based reading instruction. Experience working with elementary or middle school students is preferred. Strong communication and organizational skills. A degree, teaching certification, or formal education credential is a plus but not required . Schedule & Compensation Monday-Friday 2:30 PM-5:30 PM 15 hours per week $22.00 per hour The High-Impact Reading Tutor is expected to consistently be available during scheduled program hours and provide reliable, focused literacy support to participating youth.
