Tutor of Electrical Engineering Skills The Pierce Institute for Academic Excellence Fort Worth, TX Job Details Part-time From $33 an hour 2 hours ago Qualifications Experience working with children Working with students Electrical Engineering Python Arduino Full Job Description Tutor of Electrical Engineering Skills The Pierce Institute | Fort Worth, TX Part-Time | In Person | $30/hour The Pierce Institute is seeking a hands-on, technically skilled instructor to work one-on-one with students interested in electrical engineering, robotics, electronics, coding, and physical computing. This is not a traditional academic tutoring position . We are looking for someone who enjoys building things, experimenting, troubleshooting, and helping young students discover what they can make technology actually do . Our students have especially enjoyed project-based work using technologies such as Arduino, BirdBrain, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, robotics components, sensors, motors, LEDs, breadboards, and similar maker/electronics platforms . What You'll Do You'll work individually with students, primarily upper-elementary and middle-school age, on hands-on engineering projects. Depending on your skills and the student's interests, sessions might include: Building and modifying Arduino or other microcontroller projects Working with sensors, motors, servos, LEDs, circuits, and electronic components Creating simple robots or machines Using Python to control hardware or produce a desired movement or behavior Troubleshooting circuits, code, and mechanical systems Helping students understand why their projects work, rather than simply assembling something from instructions Finding, adapting, and experimenting with existing code and online technical resources Encouraging students to design, test, fail, revise, and try again You do not need to be an expert Python programmer. You should, however, understand basic Python and be comfortable finding and modifying existing code so that hardware does what you want it to do. Who We're Looking For A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or a related field is preferred, but practical skill matters more to us than credentials . You may be a great fit if you are: An electrical or computer engineer An engineering or computer science college student An experienced robotics or electronics hobbyist A maker who regularly works with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BirdBrain, NVIDIA Jetson, or similar platforms A technically advanced high-school student with substantial hands-on electronics/robotics experience and the maturity to teach younger students Someone with professional technical experience who would enjoy mentoring the next generation of engineers You should have a working understanding of basic electronics and electrical engineering concepts and be comfortable troubleshooting projects when something inevitably refuses to cooperate. Just as important, you must be able to communicate technical ideas to children . Our students don't need lectures. They need someone patient, curious, encouraging, and capable of turning engineering concepts into projects they can see, touch, test, and understand. Schedule This position will begin with a small number of one-on-one students, likely up to approximately 3 hours per week . Availability on Saturdays from 3:00-4:00 PM is required. Additional hours may become available as we match the instructor with other students and expand our engineering programming. Candidates should apply expecting only a few hours initially, with the possibility of growth. Location All instruction takes place in person at The Pierce Institute in Fort Worth, Texas . Candidates must be local to the Fort Worth area. This is not a remote position. Part of the value of our engineering program is giving young students the opportunity to build relationships with knowledgeable people who actually work, study, build, and experiment in technical fields. Compensation $30 per hour About The Pierce Institute The Pierce Institute provides individualized academic instruction and hands-on STEM and engineering experiences for K-12 students. Our goal is not simply to help students complete assignments. We want them to develop the curiosity, technical confidence, problem-solving skills, and real-world experience that can eventually lead them into engineering and other STEM fields. If you're the kind of person who sees an Arduino, a box of sensors, some motors, and a curious kid and immediately starts thinking, "What could we build with this?" , we'd like to hear from you. To Apply Please tell us briefly about your experience with electronics, robotics, electrical engineering, or physical computing. Specific projects are welcome. Tell us what you've built, what platforms you've used, and any experience you have working with children or explaining technical concepts to beginners. Formal teaching experience is welcome but not required .
