Student Learning Resources General Summary As a Peer Tutor, your main role in the Student Learning Resources (SLR) department is to observe and respond to customer issues by facilitating problem-solving strategies adapted to the visitors' needs. Peer Tutors assist and coach other students in becoming a more successful and independent learner. Peer Tutors provide and help integrate effective learning and study strategies, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments, and material. Specific Position Duties Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to students and community users. Create and maintain a tutoring schedule convenient to both tutor and SLR Department. Make appropriate student referrals to college offices, departments or professionals, when necessary. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each tutoring session. Attend and complete tutor training and development sessions. Develop a good understanding and knowledge of college services, supports, and resources. Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship. Passion for helping others and ability to instruct in a "hands-off" manner, allowing users to learn by doing. Ability to keep composure and focus while maintaining constructive and positive interactions. Friendly demeanor that projects accessibility and tenacity to problem-solve with the student or community user, rather than for them. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must demonstrate proficiency in a specific subject via transcripts.
