Monday to Friday 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Based on student attendance and your availability About Avalon Academic Center We are a new K-12 tutoring center opening in Wylie this September. Our site will be operated by the team behind Avalon School of Music; a family business that has served students and families in Wylie and Allen for over twenty years. Our Homework Club is a quiet, safe, supervised space where students come after school to complete work with a tutor that is ready to assist, as needed. Supporting youth is what we do at Avalon, join us today! Job Responsibilities Greeting students upon arrival, take attendance, escorting students to pick up. Circulate in a room of K-12 students, offering academic assistance. Explain grade level curricular concepts and provide examples to elementary, middle level and/or high school students. Keep the learning environment safe, calm, focused, and productive. Assist students working with our online practice platform, known as IXL. Facilitate short weekly skill-building activities for small groups. Qualities of a Great Homework Tutor Comfortable with K-12 coursework and able to explain it to young students. Patient and understanding of learners who may be tired and frustrated about elements of their homework tasks for school. Punctual, dependable and can work a consistent weekly schedule. Able to manage multiple students at once and anticipate their needs. Qualifications for Homework Club Tutor A teaching degree, certification, or prior experience is preferred but not required. College students, student teachers, recent graduates, and those seeking a career change are all encouraged to apply. If you hold a Texas teaching certificate or have several years of classroom experience, take a look at our Math Instructor and Reading Instructor postings instead. Those roles pay at a higher rate and make direct use of your credentials. If you are good with children and strong in math, reading, and writing, we will train you on everything else. Experience in tutoring, coaching, childcare, or behavioral redirection helps, but it is not a prerequisite. Why Should You Join Our Team? As we grow, it is our hope that the first group of tutors will receive the opportunity to be considered or leadership and subject-instruction roles. Application Process Apply through Indeed and include your weekly availability along with the grade levels and courses you are most comfortable teaching. Our process is a 5 minute phone screen, a 30 minute panel interview, and a brief skills assessment in the subjects you plan to teach. The assessment confirms subject competency and is waived for applicants who can document several years of classroom teaching. We open September 21 and are building the team now, so qualified candidates move quickly. A background check is required for all positions that involve working with students.
