Job Description
Under basic supervision, the Recreation Aide performs a variety of duties at community sporting games and special events. This position is an at-will seasonal position. Work is performed at various City recreation facilities. May be required to climb, kneel, and lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following : Tracks the number of patrons in recreation facilities at one time; completes transactions, manages the cash register, and completes daily deposits of pool entrance fees. Monitors recreational sporting activities to enforce safety rules, policies, and procedures. Scorekeepers work youth basketball, co-ed volleyball, co-ed softball, and men's basketball games; keeps score during games; ensures patron safety; distributes paperwork to participants; provides equipment and uniforms; tracks team records; responds to questions from players and coaches. Umpires work co-ed softball games to enforce league rules; calls balls, strikes, safe, and outs. Referees work youth basketball and men's basketball; calls fowls. Officials work co-ed volleyball; monitors game play; makes calls. Addresses and responds to complaints and concerns from coaches and participants. Performs related duties as assigned or required.Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. Work safety policies, procedures, and practices. Rules and regulations of community sports leagues. Cash handling and basic accounting practices.Skill in:
Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, and the public. Addressing and courteously responding to the issues, needs, and concerns of the community. Handling cash and making accurate change. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred AND some knowledge of sports rules; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Work is performed at various City recreation facilities. May be required to climb, kneel, and lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
