Adult Sports Lead Wage:
$18.32 to $18.76 per hour ( Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range )
Hours:
Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week
Location:
University YMCA, Tacoma, WA As an Adult Sports Lead, you will be responsible for providing supervision, leadership, and motivation for participants in all adult sports programming under the supervision of the Program Director. Provides a quality experience to participants focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Qualifications:
Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act). High school graduate or equivalent preferred. One year or more of related experience preferred. Positive attitude and previous experience with adult and diverse populations. Knowledge and skills in various sports activities and related equipment, and the ability to instruct participants in techniques. A general understanding of specific sport(s) and the rules or display a willingness to learn, and the ability to officiate games accordingly. Knowledge of safety procedures. Understanding of and commitment to the YMCA Sports Philosophy. Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred. Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in setting up activity area for practices and games and clean up afterward. Responsible for the implementation of the sports program. Plan, lead, and participate in the Adult Sports Program activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings Lead participants in the program. Assist and support leading the adult sports programs under the directions of the Program Director. Assist in recruiting and leading volunteers to assist with programming support. Assist participants with questions, comments or concerns about Adult programs. Possess the knowledge and skills needed to officiate games. Meet with the site supervisor for instruction or information as needed. Before every game, check the playing area for hazards. Meet with team captains to go over rules and calls. Start games on schedule - keep games moving. Stay calm and in control. Avoid arguments with players, coach and fans. If a situation arises that can't be handled in a professional manner, direct it to the YMCA Program Director. Help clear the playing area so the next game can begin on time. Be available for any questions directly after the game. Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission. Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events. Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas. Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment. Other duties as assigned.
