Eligible Starting Salary $41,500
  • Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and focused learning environment both in the classroom and during behind-the-wheel instruction.
  • Maintain and prepare all necessary driving records, lesson logs, and state-required reports.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional standards when working with students, parents, staff, and agencies associated with the program.
  • Conduct classroom instruction in driver safety, traffic laws, and responsible vehicle operation.
  • Provide individualized behind-the-wheel training to meet state certification requirements.
  • Evaluate and document student performance, ensuring readiness for licensing examinations.
  • Maintain all instructional vehicles, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance with state inspection standards.
  • Collaborate with administration and staff to schedule student driving hours and ensure program efficiency.
  • Integrate technology and instructional resources to enhance learning.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and safety expectations.
  • Demonstrate patience, sound judgment, and safety awareness at all times.
  • Encourage responsibility, maturity, and safe decision-making among students.
  • Participate in department, school, and district meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the principal or designee or as needs arise.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must demonstrate a record of effectiveness in teaching or student instruction.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly organized and capable of managing schedules and state documentation requirements.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, safety awareness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Must model professionalism, responsibility, and continual learning.
Requirements Education and Experience:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Driver's Education endorsement.
  • Completion of a state-approved Driver's Education preparation program.
  • Must meet all coursework, testing, and certification requirements detailed in Illinois statute and ISBE rules.
  • Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record.
