Just Cause Summary of Position:

We are seeking adjunct faculty to teach one course or a variety of courses, in one or more of the following degree programs: Building Construction Technology AAS, and Construction Management BS. In addition to the more common topics associated with the degree programs, experience in construction, surveying, construction finance, construction law, and virtual design and construction will be considered. Assignments may be lectures or labs; face-to-face, blended, or online; in Big Rapids. A focus on student success, office hours, and the use of current technology is expected. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan by the first day of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2026 at the earliest, and January 2027 at the latest. The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future. The university will not assist with any F-1 EADs, OPT, H-1 B, etc.

Temporary & Continuing Required Education:

The standard to teach college credit courses at the associate degree level (1xx, 2xx) shall be a bachelor's (or higher) degree in a field or a closely related area. The standard to teach college credit courses at the baccalaureate level (3xx, 4xx) shall be a master's degree in a field or a closely related area, or a master's degree and 18 graduate hours in the field. The standard to teach college credit courses at the graduate level shall be a terminal degree in the field or a closely related area, or a practice terminal qualification as defined by the college faculty qualification guideline.

Required Work Experience:

The following combinations of education and experience shall be considered qualifying tested experience to teach at the associate's level (1xx, 2xx). The experience considered shall comply with the quality and nature of the tested experience defined above.

• a bachelor's degree or higher out of the field, an associate's degree in the field, and 5 years of relevant industry experience.
• a bachelor's degree out of field and 7 years of relevant industry experience.
• an associate's degree in the field and 7 years of relevant industry experience The following combinations of education and experience shall be considered qualifying tested experience to teach at the baccalaureate level (3xx, 4xx). Faculty Qualification by Tested Experience Tested experience may include discipline-specific certifications, licensure, and/or other approved non-degree credentials, and possess a breadth and depth of experience outside of the classroom in real-world situations relevant to the discipline or subfield for the specific course or courses they will teach. Quality and Nature of Tested Experience The quality and nature of the tested experience shall be at a professional level; demonstrate the integration and application of an appropriate body of knowledge; illustrate a progressive level of applied knowledge and responsible charge of professional work. The experience shall illustrate professional expertise at a level to be foundational to the development of professional judgment that safeguards public property and life safety. The experience shall relate directly to the content of the course taught. The experience shall be documented. It should be noted that experience teaching in the discipline does not count toward tested experience.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Meet established course outcomes. Plan, deliver, and grade all course content and student work for assigned courses. Conduct construction management, building construction technology classes, and labs, or other assignments as directed and in a professional manner. The position may entail one or more classes, based on program needs. Close consultation with program faculty, as well as training via university-provided programs (where appropriate). Maintain at least 1 hour per week per course section for office hours to meet with students outside of class or lecture, at a time convenient to students. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to, regularly scheduled office hours (at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional academic functions (e.g., reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or online. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State's sites. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan by the first day of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
