FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to teach students technological concepts and associated products/systems by providing career appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance innovative thinking capabilities of students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops lesson plans related to technological concepts, industrial design and development, engineering design and refinement of technological products/systems. Supervise and work directly with students in fabrication laboratory to design and develop prototypes. Provides normal maintenance of the lab machines and ensures that inventory of materials and parts is up-to-date and available. Teaches students how to use software, machines and follow safety procedures, as well as assisting in the fabrication and design phase of projects. Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate. Uses appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative, and innovative thinking capabilities of students. Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of emerging trends, resources and technology related to technological and engineering design and advanced manufacturing. Experience in 3D design and laser printing preferred. Knowledge of computer-generated technology and electronics. Knowledge of Common Core and NC CTE Essential Standards. Proficiency in common desktop applications (web browsing, word processing, image editing etc.) required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum:
Bachelor's of Science Degree in Technology Education, Engineering, Architecture, or related area.
Desirable:
Background or related experience in engineering, industrial design, construction, manufacturing, or project development.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Hold 820 Technology Education License or be eligible for an 820 Technology Education license with an appropriate degree and work experience.
