6-127), school districts must pair novice provisional teachers with effective, experienced mentors. Mentors provide 30 weeks of guidance, observations, and confidential support. Annual mentor payments are $550 for traditional route (CEAS) OR $1,000 for alternate route teachers (CE).
Core Mentor Requirements Experience:
At least 3 years of full-time teaching experience and active teaching within the last 5 years.
Evaluations:
Must hold a recent summative evaluation rating of "Effective" or "Highly Effective".
Separation of Role:
Mentors cannot serve as the novice teacher's direct supervisor or conduct formal employment evaluations.
Training:
Must complete comprehensive training covering New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), adult learning, and observation skills.
