SUMMARY OF ROLE

The incumbent will teach students from 1st to 12th grade how to cook nutritious meals that they can share with their families and friends. These cooking lessons will help students develop valuable life skills and the tools necessary to make informed food choices and therefore maintain a healthier lifestyle.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities Create lesson plans for cooking classes Purchase necessary food supplies needed for each class (will be reimbursed by the organization for purchases) Create flyers with recipes and facts for students to take home Teach students how to properly use and maintain kitchen equipment including but not limited to knives, blenders, pots/pans, and appliances Supervise and manage staff and students while in the kitchen Teach the importance of maintaining a clean kitchen through hands-on training and lesson plans Sanitize all equipment after class ends Teach and ensure proper food handling Perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS

Required Clearances:

FBI Fingerprint; National Criminal Background Check; National Sex Offender Registry; Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check and PATCH.

Required Education:

High School Diploma or GED.

Required Experience:

Prior experience teaching cooking classes

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS CPR/AED

(will offer on the job training) First Aid (American Red Cross) (will offer on the job training) Food Safety Certifications preferred

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to work with little supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with members, employees, and the public. Ability to plan activities and develop curriculum. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation. Demonstrated mastery of kitchen tools, utensils, and appliances.
