• Automotive & Small Engines Part-Time | Fridays, 9:00 AM-2:00 PM | Nashville, TN The Curve is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Career & Technical Education (CTE) Instructor to lead hands-on workshops for middle and high school students exploring automotive technology, repair, maintenance, and small engines.

This position is ideal for someone with professional experience in automotive repair, mechanics, small engine repair, motorsports, or related fields who enjoys sharing their knowledge and skills with the next generation. About the Role The CTE Instructor will lead engaging, hands-on workshops designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of automotive repair, maintenance, mechanics, and small engine building and repair. Workshops should balance practical skill-building with instruction in safety, problem-solving, diagnostics, and real-world applications. Students may explore a variety of topics, including: Automotive maintenance and repair fundamentals Understanding how engines and vehicles work Basic automotive systems and components Oil changes and routine vehicle maintenance Brake, tire, battery, and fluid maintenance Diagnostic tools and troubleshooting Proper use and care of automotive tools and equipment Engine disassembly, rebuilding, and assembly Small engine repair and maintenance Building and modifying small engines Two-stroke and four-stroke engine fundamentals Tool and shop safety Career exploration in automotive technology and mechanical trades Hands-on repair, maintenance, and engine-building projects Responsibilities Lead hands-on CTE workshops for middle and high school students some Fridays between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Develop and teach engaging lessons and projects that build students' knowledge and practical mechanical skills. Create a safe, structured learning environment with a strong emphasis on proper tool use, shop safety, and safety procedures. Teach students how to use automotive and mechanical tools, equipment, and materials under appropriate supervision. Guide students through hands-on maintenance, repair, diagnostic, and engine-building projects. Adapt instruction for students with varying levels of experience and skill. Encourage problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence. Introduce students to career pathways and opportunities within automotive technology, mechanics, and related skilled trades. Help students complete meaningful hands-on projects throughout the year. Communicate material, equipment, and supply needs to The Curve's administrative team. Work collaboratively with The Curve staff to ensure high-quality programming. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: Professional experience in automotive repair, mechanics, small engine repair, or a related field. Experience teaching, mentoring, coaching, supervising, or working with teenagers is strongly preferred. A passion for helping young people develop practical, real-world skills. Strong knowledge of automotive and shop safety and appropriate use of tools and equipment. Experience diagnosing mechanical problems and explaining how systems work. The ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and engaging way. Patience, flexibility, and strong classroom or group management skills. A commitment to creating a welcoming and encouraging learning environment. Teaching certification is not required. We welcome applications from experienced automotive technicians, mechanics, small engine specialists, shop owners, motorsports professionals, retired industry professionals, technical instructors, and others with relevant hands-on experience and a passion for teaching. Schedule This is a part-time position with instruction taking place some Fridays from approximately 9:00 AM-2:00 PM during the school year. Planning and preparation time may vary depending on the instructor and workshop structure.
