The Culinary Instructor supports programming in La Scuola by teaching cooking classes, preparing and executing menu items, and assisting with private and public events.
Reports to the La Scuola Sous Chef. Works closely with the Education & Events Team and La Scuola kitchen staff to support classes and events.
Teaches a variety of demonstration and hands-on cooking classes for private and public groupsAssists with breakfasts, lunches and dinners including 3-4 course menus, family-style menus, cocktail-style receptions and buffet-style receptionsPrepares, demonstrates and executes menu items for La Scuola classes and events; most items are savory, but occasionally sweet items may need to be executedAssists with the production and preparation of food items for classes and events in collaboration with back-of-the-house personnelPrepares and portions meats, vegetables, desserts and other menu items as neededAssists with utilizing food surpluses appropriately to help control food costsSupports the training and direction of prep cooks and line cooks during classes and events as neededMaintains health, food safety and quality standards throughout food preparation, cooking and serviceMaintains kitchen mise-en-place for assigned stations and ensures the La Scuola kitchen remains clean and organizedCommunicates menu changes, specials, shortages, allergies and dietary restrictions to front-of-house personnel and the La Scuola Sous ChefAssists with event preparation and menu execution in collaboration with the Education & Events Team and La Scuola Sous ChefAssists with preparing ingredients, kitchen supplies and equipment needed for classes and eventsPerforms other duties as required or assignedQualifications2+ years of cooking experience, Working knowledge of kitchen equipment, food production procedures, and safety and sanitation regulationsExcellent communication skills and enjoyment of speaking in front of large groupsIn-depth knowledge of Italian cuisine and cultureItalian language skills highly preferredJob RequirementsAvailability to work onsite with a flexible schedule often including evenings, weekends and holidaysAbility to lift up to 50 poundsAbility to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours, including standing, walking, bending and squattingAbility to use knives, hand tools and standard commercial kitchen equipmentFood Handler's LicenseAdditional InformationBenefits and PerksMedical, Dental, Vision InsurancePaid Time OffPaid Parental Leave401K with match Free family meal dailyDiscounts at EatalyReferral bonus programand more!
Compensation:
