Position Overview Educators are responsible for leading engaging nature education experiences for children, school groups, and the general public. This position supports the Heard's mission of connecting people with nature by designing and delivering programs such as our camps, field investigations, animal talks, scout workshops, outreaches, homeschool, and preschool classes. This position is part-time, with weekday, weekend, and evening opportunities available. Scheduling is flexible and varies per week depending on programming needs. Background check required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Teach hands-on, interactive lessons about native species and local ecosystems Facilitate outdoor activities to support educational materials, such as hiking and field investigations Assist with preparing lesson plans and activities. Set up classrooms and educational materials. Break down and cleanup program spaces after completion. Handle and teach about our animal ambassadors by following all proper handling procedures and safety measures Ensure safety and wellbeing of all program participants Engage in continuing education and training in outdoor education techniques

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field preferred Previous teaching experience and a background in natural sciences preferred. CPR/First Aid certification preferred Comfortable hiking outdoors in all weather and potentially uneven trails Ability or willingness to learn to handle animal ambassadors for educational programming Ability to adapt lesson plans and teaching style based on learning needs and age group Strong classroom management, organizational, time management, communication, and problem solving skills

Pay:

$13.00 per hour
