General Public•G Job Duties The teacher provides instruction, structure, and academic support to students within a secure juvenile justice educational setting. This role requires strong classroom management, adaptability, and the ability to engage students with varying academic, behavioral, and emotional needs. Teachers are expected to create a safe, structured, and student-centered classroom environment while supporting the rehabilitative mission of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Minimum Qualifications Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and graduated from an approved teacher preparation program in health and physical education; or earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and completed a major in health and physical education or 45 semester hours of coursework distributed in the following areas: Personal health, safety, and care of athletic injuries: three semester hours; Human anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, and biomechanics of human movement: nine semester hours; General health and physical education theory, including curriculum design and development in health and physical education: three semester hours; Instructional methods and skills for secondary physical education: three semester hours; Concepts of motor learning, instructional methods, and skills for elementary physical education: three semester hours; Instruction methods for elementary and secondary school health: three semester hours; Health and physical education electives: nine semester hours; Instructional methods and strategies for adapted physical education: three semester hours; Technology in health and physical education: three semester hours; Principles of human nutrition: three semester hours; and Assessment and evaluation in the content area: three semester hours.
Licensed:
Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching Certificate/License and endorsed in PE / Health and Driver's Education.
Experience:
Experience as a Health/PE Driver's Education teacher in a secondary setting preferred.
