Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Job Description This Electrical Engineer role focuses on improving production efficiency, lowering operating costs, and maximizing manufacturing uptime in a dynamic glass manufacturing environment. You will lead capital and plant improvement projects, manage and troubleshoot electrical power systems, and provide hands-on support to operations and maintenance teams. The position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, including major facility upgrades, while being mentored by an experienced engineering leader and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. Responsibilities Support and troubleshoot issues related to the plant's electrical power distribution system and associated equipment. Improve yields, reduce costs, and increase manufacturing uptime by supporting and optimizing existing facilities and processes. Provide leadership for capital projects and plant improvements from concept through implementation. Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and corporate capability groups to plan and execute projects effectively. Instruct plant personnel on the operation and maintenance of electrical and control systems you help implement. Determine design requirements and prepare technical specifications and drawings for major capital projects and plant improvements. Procure necessary materials and services for electrical and controls projects, working with vendors and contractors as needed. Coordinate the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment for new and existing facilities. Prepare cost estimates and develop project budgets and timelines to ensure projects stay on schedule and within scope. Write electrical specifications, create electrical single-line diagrams and layout drawings, and use them to select and guide electrical contractors. Monitor and review working drawings prepared by outside contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards. Provide contractor management and safety oversight for all contractor services related to electrical and controls work. Participate in planning and execution of major plant upgrades and repairs, including high-value projects such as tempering lines, new warehouse and coating processes, and cold tank repairs. Engage regularly on the plant floor to build strong working relationships, understand operational needs, and provide responsive technical support. Work hands-on with power systems, cooling towers, and related infrastructure to ensure reliable and safe plant operations. Essential Skills Experience with power system distribution and backup systems, including emergency generators, UPS, and automatic transfer switches (ATS). Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a heavy industrial or process setting. Project management experience overseeing technical projects from planning through completion. Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles, particularly as they apply to industrial power and control systems. Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and power system issues in an operating plant. Strong communication skills to collaborate with operations, maintenance, contractors, and corporate teams. Ability to provide clear instructions and training to plant personnel on electrical and control systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Controls Engineering. Experience working with higher voltage systems, including 15 kV and above. Experience with PLC programming and interface systems such as MMI and SCADA. Significant experience with process control of conveyance systems in a manufacturing environment. Experience with SCADA systems and process controls for monitoring and optimizing plant operations. Familiarity with reliability, maintenance, and CAPEX project work in an industrial setting. Ability to build strong relationships on the plant floor and collaborate effectively across functions. Willingness to learn the specifics of glass manufacturing processes and apply engineering skills to a high-power, continuous-process environment. Openness to relocation if required by the role. Work Environment The role is based in a large, power-intensive glass manufacturing facility undergoing significant investment in upgrades and expansion, including tempering lines, new warehouse and coating processes, and major cold tank repairs. You will work in a principled, team-oriented environment that values ingenuity, collaboration, and being a trusted partner to internal and external customers. The position is hands-on and plant-focused, involving regular time on the production floor, in equipment areas, and around high-voltage power systems, cooling towers, and process lines. You will work closely with an Engineering Manager who is an electrical engineer and committed to mentoring, while engaging with operations, maintenance, vendors, and contractors on a variety of improvement, efficiency, safety, and capital projects. The environment emphasizes safety, reliability, and continuous improvement, with exposure to modern control systems, SCADA, PLCs, and large-scale industrial equipment.
